Contrary to popular myth, Judy Garland's death and subsequent revolt by the patrons of The Stonewall Inn has been mistakenly attributed as the birthplace of the modern Gay Rights Movement. We learn, in Joanna Lin's historical piece in the L.A. Times, that there is a piece of our history buried in Silver Lake that pre-dates Stonewall and offers a rare glimpse into the genesis of a movement that would continue anew on November 4, 2008.
